Industries Measurement on the agitator shaft, with no contact with the medium

Prozessindustrie

Aggressive media, high pressures and strict hygiene rules rule many measuring methods out from the start. Every extra sealing point in the process space is a possible source of contamination and one more thing to validate, service and document.

The starting point

At the same time, central process variables stay hard to reach. Viscosity and consistency change during a batch but can rarely be captured inline; measurement often happens in the laboratory, which is to say after the batch has run.

Contactless measurement works from the mechanical side: from the resistance the medium offers the agitator shaft. It never touches the medium and still delivers a quantity that, evaluated properly, translates into process figures.

Where it is used

Process variables derived from torque data

01

Viscosity and consistency

Resistance at the agitator shaft tracks the consistency of the medium. Capture it continuously and the state of the material becomes observable during the batch, rather than in a laboratory result afterwards.

02

Conclusions about flow rates

Torsion on pump shafts and at defined measuring points allows conclusions about the volume delivered. That adds a layer of control in the pipework, independent of the measuring chain already there.

03

Wear on agitators

Wear starting on bearings or blades changes the torque profile before it becomes damage. Maintenance can then be planned when it is needed, not by the calendar and not after a stoppage.

What you gain

What process control and quality assurance gain

No added contamination risk

Because measurement is contactless, no further sealing points appear in the process space, which counts for sterile and high-purity applications.

Evaluation as process figures

The signal conditioning is calibrated to your application, so the torque signal becomes the quantity your process control actually needs.

Connection to the control system

Real-time interfaces allow integration into the process control system, so the reading arrives where control and documentation happen.

Retrofittable

The compact housing allows integration into existing plant without opening up the process space.

Next step

Describe the medium, the agitator and the figure you actually need. We will check whether it can be derived from the torque curve, and what the evaluation would have to do for that.
