Off-highway

Agricultural, forestry and construction machines work where dust, mud, damp and constant shaking are the normal state of things. Strain gauges and slip ring systems are not built for that: they need clean mechanical contact, and the working environment destroys it systematically.

The starting point

There is an economic argument on top. A sensor that has to be replaced in the field does not cost the sensor, it costs machine downtime in a window that cannot be moved: the harvest does not wait for the service van.

Contactless measurement takes the ground out from under that problem. With no contact point there is nothing to foul, wear or work loose. Once integrated, the measuring point is left alone for the life of the machine.

Where it is used

Measuring tasks in off-highway machinery

01

Engine and power take-offs (PTO)

How much power actually reaches the PTO shaft decides whether an implement works in its best range. Measuring the load distribution continuously shows where power is lost and lets implements be supplied deliberately.

02

Wear on cutting and chopping tools

Blunt blades need more torque for the same work. That change is measurable long before it shows in cut quality. Driver and machine control learn in good time when sharpening is due.

03

Load management and overload protection

Running continuously at the limit costs fuel and service life. Measuring utilisation in real time keeps the machine in its efficient range and protects the driveline from sudden load peaks.

What you gain

What field use demands

Indifferent to contamination

Dust, dirt, damp and oil do not affect the measurement, because there is no contact with the shaft that would have to stay clean.

Continuous duty under oil

The sensors are built to run permanently in an oil bath, so they can go inside the gearbox rather than at a dry substitute measuring point outside it.

Shock- and vibration-proof

The heavy shaking that is normal in forestry and construction does not affect measuring accuracy.

Little servicing in the field

With no mechanical abrasion there is no downtime from sensor wear, and no service call in the middle of the season.

Room to optimise fuel

Knowing the real load state lets engine and transmission operating points be set deliberately, instead of running with safety margins.
